10.21.09 - MAD FOR PLAID
Plaid is back in a BIG way this fall. Throughout the years, plaid has defined fashion in many ways. From school uniforms to the punk scene, plaid has been worn by ALL types of people. This fall you'll see plaid in dresses, tops, skirts, jackets, and accessories. At Stella, we've approached plaid a bit differently than most stores. Rather than bringing in huge shipments of plaid shirts, we've focused on just a few gorgeous pieces. First up is a must-have dress from Hazel. In shades of fuschia and black, this plaid is like nothing you've seen before. This dress could be paired with a black cardigan, tights, and heels for the perfect fall look. If you'd rather not wear that much plaid, we have some accessories that will still allow you to bring plaid into your fall wardrobe, but in a more comfortable way. Grab a pair of plaid tights or a plaid scarf and you'll be set!
10.05.09 - SCARF IT UP
Scarves are all the rage this fall. Not only do they make a statement, but they can be worn a million different ways. Knotted in front, wrapped around the neck or tied in a bow, scarves are here to stay. On warmer fall days pair a plain tee with distressed jeans, Frye boots (coming soon to Stella), and a colorful scarf for the perfect casual look! July 2009: The Boyfriend Jean
Ok ladies, the boyfriend jean is quite possibly the MOST comfortable trend we've seen yet this year. Designers have transformed this trend we first saw in the 80's, into a comfy yet sophisticated must-wear for 2009. Celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts, Rachel Bilson, and Katie Holmes are rocking these jeans right now. Though the look appears effortless, the ensemble is perfectly planned.
Here are a few simple rules that will help you find the PERFECT pair of boyfriend jeans for you:
- Selection: You no longer have to wear your boyfriend's jeans, this redefined look was made just for you!
- Rule 1: Look for a straight, wider leg jean. Bootcuts and flares DO NOT work with this trend. My favorite is the boyfriend by 1921 Jeans - we've got them at Stella! I love these jeans so much that I'd wear them almost everyday if I could.
- Rule 2: In order to pull this look off, the jeans MUST be rolled at least once at the bottom. You want the cuffs to sit just above the ankle (I prefer to roll mine up two inches, then roll up again to cover the bottom hem). The roll does not have to be perfect, in fact,
- Make it work: To make this look work, I suggest pairing the jeans with a plain tee or button down shirt, strappy sandals, and your favorite accessory (chunky necklace, bangles, oversized bag).
- Avoid: Try to avoid tops that are too masculine or boxy. You have to show off your feminine features so you don't come off looking like your boyfriend, or worse, frumpy.
